On Tuesday, April 10, Robert Toombs Christian Academy competed in the Tennis Region Tournament in Douglas, Georgia. In the first round of the girls’ singles, Ansley Spivey defeated Ali Dye from FPCA and Analise Williams lost to Ivy Roberts from CCA.  Maggie Standard also defeated Sara Walker from CCA.

Ansley Spivey then lost to Madelyn Tanner from CCA in the semifinals and Maggie Standard lost to Ivy Roberts from CCA.  R.T.C.A. then goes head to head for the #3 and #4 seed as Ansley Spivey defeated Maggie Standard in the consolation match.  Ansley Spivey will advance to state competition as #3 seed from the region and Maggie Standard will advance to state competition as #4 seed from the region.

In the first round of the boys’ singles, Jarron Guy was the #2 seeded boy and received a first round bye.  Jarron then lost to Josiah Pope from CCA in the semifinals and then lost to Tyler Corsa from CCA in  the consolation match.  Jarron Guy will advance to state competition as #4 seed from the region.

In the semifinals of the girls’ doubles Ella Stanley and Samantha Threlkeld lost to Jessie Tanner and Emma Rish from CCA. Francie Stanley and Mary Hayes Palmer lost to Atumn Patton and Jenna Williams from CCA.  R.T.C.A. then goes head to head for the #3 and #4 seed where Francie Stanley and Mary Hayes Palmer defeated Ella Stanley and Samantha Threlkeld. Francie Stanley and Mary Hayes Pamer will advance to state as the #3 seed from region and Ella Stanley and Samantha Threlkeld will advance to state as the #4 seed from region.

In the semifinals of the boys’ doubles the top seeded team, Wil Duvall and Justin Johnson, received a bye to the finals. Sam NeSmith and Blaine MIller defeated Caleb Bagley and Hogan Doyle from CCA in the other semifinal match.  In the finals Wil Duvall and Justin Johnson defeated Sam NeSmith and Blaine Miller to win the boys’ doubles region championship.

The State Individual Tennis Tournament will begin Monday, April 16th in Macon at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center and conclude on Tuesday, April 17th.  R.T.C.A. will be well represented there by: Ansley Spivey, Maggie Standard, Jarron Guy, Ella Stanley and Samantha Threlkeld, Francie Stanley and Mary Hayes Palmer, Wil Duvall and Justin Johnson, and Sam NeSmith and Blaine Miller.

The State Team Competition will take place on Tuesday, April 24th in Macon at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.  Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will compete as the #2 seed from the region.

Coach Lindi Duvall said “These kids have worked hard this season and their goal was to return to the state competition in Macon.  There were lots of new players that came out this year and helped complete the girls’ and boys’ teams.  We have five seniors that provided great leadership to the younger players.  We are excited to head to Macon and see how the kids play there next week.”
