Robert Toombs Christian Academy held its annual Elementary School Honor’s Day, Wednesday, May 15, in the RTCA gymnasium.  Fifth grader Vick Moore led the Pledge of Allegiance and Ava Grace NeSmith said the invocation. Mandy Johnson, also in the fifth grade, closed out the ceremony in prayer.

The ceremony began with seniors Sarah Tuck and Baylee Williamson thanking their K3 teachers, Mrs. Tanya Coursey and Mrs. Beth NeSmith, for starting the K3 program. These seniors are just a few out of the senior class that has been at RTCA since the K3 program began in 2004.

Mr. Mitch Bellflower then presented the Winshape Scholarships to third grader Alayda Anderson and sixth grader Macy Kennedy. Elementary Students of the Month, Spelling Bee participants, Lego Club participants, and Jr. Pro athletes were also recognized.

Art students who placed in the Altama Student Art Show were kindergartener Lila Garrett (3rd place), second grader Braylin Pittman (2nd place), and third grader Seth Holton placed first.

Second grade teachers, Mrs. Lisa Williamson and Mrs. Leslie Wiggins, began the awards ceremony by awarding academic achievements to their second grade class. Anna Kate Joyner received Excellent Attendance and Alec Franklin received the Good Citizenship award for second grade. Students who made Yearly Headmaster’s were: Addison Botelho, Chesney Burch, Annabelle Coe, Morgan Dismuke, Alec Franklin, Hadley Garrett, Anna Kate Joyner, Jackson McCarty, Emmalee Milligan, Sailor Monroe, Natalie Moore, Lou Munsayac, RJ Phillips, Braylin Pittman, Reba Salter, Ava Scott, Addysen Smith, Raeann Smith, Mary Frances Stanley, Maribeth Stephens, Ward Varnadoe, Meeghan Wolfe, and Layton Youmans. Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. Wiggins awarded students with Academic Subject Awards in Math, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, English, and Reading. Highest average in math went to Anna Kate Joyner and Lou Munsayac. Highest average in science went to Lou Munsayac. Highest average in social studies went to Lou Munsayac and Anna Kate Joyner. Highest average in reading went to Anna Kate Joyner. Highest average in English and spelling went to Anna Kate Joyner and Braylin Pittman.

Third grade teachers, Mrs. Sue Brewton and Mrs. Tiffany McKinney, awarded Kaylee Batten and Jarrett Reaves the Good Citizenship award for third grade. Third grade students who made Yearly Headmaster’s were: Alayda Anderson, Gabby Betsill, Riley Hinson, Seth Holton, Yates Pye, Gale Smith, Evan Thigpen, Sam Varn, Brantley Black, Brice Hardee, Banks Hopkins, Kinsley Kennedy, Karson Kennedy, Clayton Metts, and Lilli Thigpen. Students awarded Yearly Honor Roll for their grade is Henry Adams, Julie Smith, and Maddison Sickles. Mrs. Brewton and Mrs. McKinney awarded students with Academic Subject Awards in Math, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, English and Reading. Highest average for math went to Banks Hopkins. Highest average for science went to Brantley Black and Yates Pye. Social Studies highest average went to Yates Pye, Banks Hopkins, and Gale Smith. Highest average for English was awarded to Yates Pye and highest average for reading went to Alayda Anderson.

Fourth grade teachers, Mrs. Lauren Boyd and Mrs. Valerie Tapley, awarded Carson Raines with Excellent Attendance and Leighton Williams and Amelia Moore received the Good Citizenship award for fourth grade. Students who received Yearly Headmaster’s were: Maggie Bowers, Kailen Brantley, Kailey Dismuke, Nathan Hollis, Judith Hussey, Rylan Keene, Josie Kight, Eleanor Martinez, Alexis Reaves, and Julia Yacovella. Students who received Yearly Honor Roll for fourth grade are Gracie Billie Parker Ford, Anderson Moore, Adam O’Neal, Clayton Williams, and Gracie Williamson. Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Tapley then awarded students with Academic Subject Awards in Math, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, English and Reading. Maggie Bowers received highest average in Math and Josie Kight received highest average in Social Studies. Highest average in science went to Eleanor Martinez. Josie Kight received highest average in reading, English and spelling.

Fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Lori Wingate and Mrs. Leigh Ann Walden awarded Vick Moore with Excellent Attendance and Mekhia Bell received the Good Citizenship award for fifth grade. Students who received Yearly Headmaster’s were: Mekhia Bell, Lily Cauley, Samantha Greenhouse, Isaac Holton, Mandy Johnson, Autumn Moore, Vick Moore, Cayden Nance, and Ava Grace NeeSmith. Those who received Yearly Honor Roll were: Logan Belcher, Emily Coleman, Colin Milligan, Grayson Smesney, and Kylie Whitney. Mrs. Wingate and Mrs. Walden then awarded students with Academic Subject Awards in Math, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, English and Reading. Autumn Moore received highest average for social studies, English, and reading. Ava Grace NeeSmith received highest average for science and Vick Moore received highest average for Math.

Overall Highest Academic Averages Awards were awarded to elementary school students who received the highest and second highest overall averages. Second graders Anna Kate Joyner received highest average overall and Lou Munsayac received second highest. Third graders Yates Pye received highest overall and Seth Holton received second highest overall average. Fourth graders Josie Kight received highest overall and Caiden Beasley received second highest overall average. Fifth graders Vick Moore received highest overall and Autumn Moore received second highest overall average.

This year, R.T.C.A. is proud to announce the Lower School Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Sonya Vaughn. Mrs. Vaughn has been teaching for over 30 years in the public school system and has been at RTCA for three years. “I am truly honored and blessed to be selected as RTCA’s Lower School Teacher of the Year. Being part of a facility that cherishes the Word of God as their daily walk has manifested itself in my life. My passion is working with children by serving God’s calling,” states Mrs. Vaughn, RTCA Kindergarten teacher.
